Pest and Disease Control

Pest and Disease Control

Pest and disease control refers to the management of pests and diseases that can damage crops, livestock, and forests. Courses in pest and disease control teach students about the biology and ecology of pests and diseases, monitoring and surveillance techniques, control strategies, and pesticide safety. Students may also learn about integrated pest management, biological control, and sustainable pest management practices.   Students can expect to learn: Pest and disease identification: Students will learn how to identify common pests and diseases that affect crops and livestock, including insects, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Pest and disease prevention: Students will learn about the principles and methods of preventing pests and diseases from becoming established in crops and livestock populations, including cultural, mechanical, and biological control measures. Pest and disease control: Students will learn about the principles and methods of controlling established pest and disease populations, including chemical and non-chemical control methods.
